The youngest of three sisters who authorities say were imprisoned in an Arizona home says she doesn’t think her stepfather was going to kill them the day two of the girls escaped.
The girl was 12 when she fled the Tucson home in 2013. She testified Thursday in the kidnapping and child abuse case against her mother, Sophia Richter, and stepfather, Fernando Richter.
The girl says she recalls seeing her stepfather with a knife on the day they fled but didn’t think he would kill them.
However, she says Fernando Richter had threatened their lives in the past and typically beat her for breaking any rules.
The Associated Press does not generally identify minors who say they are crime victims.
