NEW YORK – In New York City and around the country, a diverse group of demonstrators took to the streets for another night following a grand jury’s decision not to indict a white police officer in the chokehold death of a black man.
Grandparents brought their grandchildren, experienced veteran activists marched alongside newcomers, and black and brown protesters chanted slogans with whites.
Thousands and thousands of people demonstrated around the country including in Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Denver, Detroit, Minneapolis and Washington, D.C. Authorities say arrest have been made.
Politicians talked about the need for better police training, body cameras and changes in the grand jury process to restore faith in the legal system. But New York’s police union criticized the mayor, saying he isn’t showing any support for police.
